Minh out early at Denmark Open
National top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh yesterday lost unexpectedly to Eric Pang from the Netherlands in the first round of the Denmark Open Super Series.
Minh, who is the world seed No 21, was expected to win at least one match here but was defeated 17-21, 17-21 by Pang who was 10 spots under him in the world ranking.
The Vietnamese representative started off well, leading half of the first set before Pang caught up with him and finished first. The loss drew on Minh’s nerves, his biggest handicap, and he quickly lost the next set.
Players from 27 nations are competing in the Denmark Open Super Series, taking place in Odense City from October 21 to 26. The winners will walk away with US$170,000.
